Preparation for Wednesday and Thursday:

  • Read Froma Zeitlin’s chapter, ‘The Dynamics of Misogyny: Myth and Mythmaking in the Oresteia’, in the edited volume, Women in the Ancient World: The Arethusa Papers (available online through the library).
  • Read this introductory piece from Helene P. Foley’s Female Acts in Greek Tragedy.
  • Read Froma Zeitlin’s chapter ‘Playing the Other: Theatre, Theatricality, and the Feminine in Greek Drama’, which can be found as the fourth chapter in Laura McClure’s Sexuality and Gender in the Classical World. This is available online through the library.
